Our list looks at the cheapest new models out there, but you’ll save even more on these prices if you look at 2nd hand cars. Just remember to check an independent valuation site to make sure you’re getting a good deal.

Posh inside, quick and with sharp handling. A good choice if you don’t need a huge range or spacious rear seats.
7: MG ZS EV

The cheapest electric SUV out there still has a useable range and has a practical interior that’s great for families.
8: Peugeot E-208

More practical than the MINI Electric and with a longer range, too. Impressively, its interior is similarly upmarket.
9: Renault Zoe

One of the longest range small hatchbacks out there and decently practical. It’s been around a while but is still a strong contender.

A short range and tiny boot may be a problem for some, but the Honda e is great too drive and has an interior packed full of tech to impress your mates.

The Leaf is a familiar name having first gone on sale in 2011. This second generation car has a greatly improved range and is unmistakably an electric car.

The e-C4 combines rugged SUV styling with a coupe roofline in a hatchback-sized package. It’s comfortable and has a decent range, making it a sensible choice as well as a distinctive one.

One of the e-Niro’s biggest draws is its impressive range that makes range anxiety a thing of the past if you opt for the 64kWh version. It’s a practical choice and an oh-so-fashionable SUV, too.

The Kona Electric has the same motor and battery choices as the e-Niro, but in a smaller, funkier looking package. It’s not quite as practical or plush inside, though.
