10. Volkswagen Up
The VW Up is probably not the car you thought was coming after that inspirational opening, but this car, whether you’ve heard of it or not, is a diamond in the rough. The market for tiny city cars, that look like a hamster wouldn’t fit in, is pretty dreadful. Most vehicles like the SmartCar or Mini Cooper are boring and no bigger than the cereal box you used this morning. For the most part, people hate all of these glorified child-toys. The Volkswagen Up, even though the name is terrible, changed these cars for the better. The Up has style and enough room to fit a normal human inside. 9. Ferrari LaFerrari
Supercars have been around for decades, possibly even a century. They changed the way people thought about going fast. In the 2010s, the world sought out to make everything bigger. Bigger is better in this weird place we call Earth. So, fittingly, we created “Hypercars”. Think of a hypercar as the older brother to the supercar, only more horsepower, higher speeds, and better designs.
There were loads of different hypercars made this decade by manufacturers from Lamborghini to McLaren. However, the car that completely changed the hypercar industry was the Ferrari LaFerrari. Companies from all over the globe are designing hyper-mega-ultra-super cars to grab people’s attention. All of these models are influenced by the LaFerrari, the beginning of the need for more speed.
8. Hyundai Sonata
Why is there a simple four-door sedan on an influential vehicles list? Well, the Sonata changed the sedan industry. Before this decade, sedans were made cheaply and were overall unimpressive unless you were buying something expensive. Hyundai changed that thought with its sedan.
The Sonata looks like a luxury vehicle made by BMW or Mercedes, but it will only cost you around $25,000. This car is so influential because of that price. Hyundai took a risk by putting well-made, stylish vehicles at prices nobody else could beat. The Sonata has completely altered this decade’s sedans and the prices they’re sold at.
7. Mercedes S-Class
Yes, the entire class. Mercedes has been turning out gorgeous cars every year since it began making cars. If anyone knows how to revolutionize a class, it’s going to be them. So that’s exactly what the company did.
From the 450 to the AMG S 63, Mercedes outdid itself yet again. The entire S-Class makes our list for continuing to push the luxury car world into the future. Instead of sitting back and watching other manufacturers catch up, Mercedes continues to make the best luxury cars available.
6. Ford F-150 Raptor
We had to get a pick-up in the mix somewhere. The Ford Raptor is a beefed-up version of the best-selling F-150. As if the classic truck wasn’t good enough, the Raptor can tow anything, haul anything, and run over everything.
The Raptor is now so popular that Ford can’t keep it in stock. It makes our list because it’s exactly what Americans love: bigger, meaner, and faster. Ford was ingenious in its thinking and will likely continue to make millions off the Raptor.
5. Porsche 911
Porsche has a reputation unlike any other automobile company. It creates the most stylish luxury cars in the world. However, in the early 2000s, Porsche took a lot of heat for its 911 model. People believed that the company had gotten away from its roots, and that the car was not what it used to be. People were right; the 911 didn’t look or feel anywhere near as awesome as it once was.
This decade though, Porsche got its head out of the sand and reinvented its flagship vehicle. Today, the 911 is one of the best, if not the best, two door sports car money can buy.
4. Volvo XC90
From 2010 to 2019, the world fell in love with SUVs. It’s extremely difficult to put a pin on who began this frenzy of SUV buying, but the Volvo XC90 is a good choice. You’ve undoubtedly seen just how many SUVs there are these days, and they all seem to be competing with one another. Every company is delivering good-looking vehicles at solid prices.
The Volvo XC90 is a founding father of this idea. The vehicle is beautifully built by a company with a classy reputation. While you can find a cheaper SUV, you won’t find a better one. Volvo gets our nod as a revolutionary figure in the enormous SUV market.
3. Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat
Similar to the Ford Raptor, Dodge decided to envelop the American spirit into a car. The Challenger SRT Hellcat is 199 mph of pure muscle. Dodge noticed the interest in powerful muscle cars declining, so it developed the Hellcat.
The 707-Horsepower Hellcat has brought light back to the industry of powerful American cars. This vehicle began a line of competition with other U.S. brands.
2. Tesla Model S
One of the most talked about cars of the past century is the Tesla Model S. It is, undoubtedly, the most revolutionary car we’ve seen in a long time. The world had begun to notice the deadly consequences of vehicle emissions. We realized what was happening to the world, and so did Tesla. In response, it created an electric car that has created more stir in the auto industry than any other time in history. The Model S is fast, luxurious, and doesn’t take gas. It showed us what the future of auto engines is going to look like.
1. Ford Mustang Mach-E
While Tesla reimagined the future of driving, in 2019, Ford thought up something even better. The Mustang Mach-E is an all-electric Mustang SUV. Ford’s original Mustang is one of the best-selling cars of all time; the Mach-E is an indication that the company noticed the love for SUVs, but also noticed how much people love the Mustang. Though it is making its debut in 2020, the car was designed in 2019 and deserves our number one spot for changing the future of vehicles.
