Meta Description:
Did you hear about the new all-electric hatchback from Mini Cooper? Well, here is an in-depth review of the 2020 Mini Cooper SE. So check it out!]
The Mini Cooper is the king of all small cars. The car has been in production since the late 60s and has been a mainstay in the automotive market since then. Within this time the Mini has established itself as a fun car to drive.
And its new iteration, the Mini Cooper SE 2020 has stayed true to its designation. The Mini Cooper SE 2020 is an all-electric car and works as an alternative to other EV (Electric Vehicle) with a low base price.
While it does seem like a great drive the estimated mileage is a bit too low for our liking. The estimated eMPG is around 110 miles for 2020 Mini Cooper SE. But for the most part, it makes up for this shortcoming by having sharp handling capabilities along with its iconic compact hatchback design. And don’t worry about finding the spare parts because as Mini is becoming a brand for everyone, you will get your auto parts for the car in your local auto parts store very easily.
So it seems all fine and dandy but let’s take a deeper look into the car. Here in the following passages, we will give you a Mini Cooper SE 2020 review so that you know what to expect from the car. So let’s get into it.
What Does the Mini Cooper SE 2020 Offer?
As you already know that the Mini Cooper SE is an all-new electric car introduced by the company for 2020. It shares the same engine as the BMW i3s. While the base price is a bit higher than the gas model it should come back down significantly after the federal tax cut.
Now the Mini Cooper SE comes in 3 different packages and they are all good in our opinion. The Mini Cooper SE 2020 base price starts at around 30,750 dollars for the Signature package. Now the base package itself is stacked with a lot of things.
You will get a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay. Along with that, you can choose 16-inch wheels, automatic dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, faux-leather upholstery, LED front lighting, passive entry, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
This is absolute value for money if you are considering the tax credit you are going to get. The Signature Plus rolls in at 34,750 dollars and the Iconic package at around 37,750 dollars.
2020 Mini Cooper SE Specs & Performance
So the 2020 Mini Cooper SE is average in terms of specs. It comes with a 32.6-kWh battery pack and produces around 181 horsepower and 199 lb-ft of torque. Now the electric motor does provide a bit of a quick acceleration but it’s nothing that significant.
Mini Cooper claims that the SE can go from 0 to 60 in 6.9 miles with a touted top speed of 93 miles per hour. It has also stayed true to its roots with the SE retaining the brand’s signature “go-kart handling”. The Mini Cooper also has two braking modes.
One will allow the car to simply coast like any other non-EV cars and then there is another mode where you won’t even need to touch your brakes. The Mini Cooper SE is a bit disappointing when it comes to range and mileage.
The driving range for a Mini Cooper SE is around 110 miles with a full charge. Now, this is much shorter than its contemporaries with the Chevy Bolt and Nissan Leaf providing significantly more.
The SE also has a fast-charging option where the battery takes around 35 minutes to reach an 80 percent charge. Or if you are using the home AC charging at 7.4 kW then it’s supposed to reach full charge within 4 hours.
On top of that, it has two-mode regenerative braking which will maximize battery charge. As we said before the 2020 Mini Cooper SE is estimated to have a 110 miles range and the EPA has released a similar statement for that. It is commendable but far shorter than the standard nowadays.
2020 Mini Cooper SE Interior, Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
The interior of the SE is pretty nice considering the price. The dashboard features a 5.5-inch digital gauge cluster to display the car’s current speed. It also shows you battery’s charge level, driving range, nav info along with having different infotainment functions.
When you are charging the SE the display will show you available range, the percent of charge, exterior temperature, and estimated time for charge completion along with other important information.
What’s surprising about the interior is that the SE comes equipped with a dual-zone automatic climate-control system, heated front seats, and a unique heat-pump design. The heat-pump was designed in such a way that the heater utilizes 75 percent less energy than the traditional heater.
The Mini Cooper SE has a surprisingly well infotainment system. The standard version comes with a 6.5-inch unit along with navigation and Apple CarPlay integration. You can also opt for an 8.8-inch screen.
There is a smartphone app for the SE with which you can control the internal temperature before you even enter the car. Other features that you can opt into are wireless charging and a Harman/Kardon audio system.
The Mini Cooper SE hasn’t yet been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). So we really can’t give you a credible safety test standard right now.
But the Mini Cooper SE does have driver assistance. It comes standard with forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, and rain-sensing windshield wipers and headlights and automated emergency braking.
You can also have the option to get front and rear parking sensors and self-parking assistance. So in terms of warranties, the Mini Cooper SE comes with a limited warranty of four years or 50,000 miles and for the powertrain, it’s the same as well. There is also complimentary scheduled maintenance which covers three years or 36,000 miles which is standard for EVs.
A True Mini
So there you go, that concludes our 2020 Mini Cooper SE review. Mini Cooper with the SE was able to retain its identity. The all-electric Mini Cooper SE is a proper electric that will give you the Mini feel. This is not something you can say for many EVs.
Now, if you want to find EV parts for the Mini Cooper SE; try any of the best auto parts app out there to compare prices & deals. Not only you will get aftermarket auto body parts from online by that but also various lucrative deals. By that you can have the best experience when shopping for auto parts online.
The SE looks sharp and provides decent performance and the interior is well stocked. In our opinion, it is a solid EV and with the federal tax break you can get with the car it looks like a bargain. So with that being said our in-depth review is complete. Until next time, see ya!
