How to Protect Your Classic Car

Your classic car will be your pride and joy and you may have paid a pretty penny to get it. Don’t let your stunning car sit out in the elements unprotected. Here are some tips to help you do everything in your power to keep your car looking as good as the day you bought it.

Keep It Somewhere Covered

This should be a given but it must be reiterated how important it is to keep your car somewhere where it is protected from any weather. You will need a garage or some other outbuilding where you can store the car.

A steel building is a stylish option which can easily fit in with other outbuildings you may have. Use this handy steel building calculator to work out how much one would cost you to construct.

Don’t forget to add security to it as you need. Sturdy locks and motion-activated security lights are a must. You should also keep any keys in a completely different building to the cars and preferably behind some more locks.

A Cover Within the Cover

Sometimes the building is not enough to keep your car safe. To protect from any damage that might occur within the garage itself, consider investing in a car cover. This is an extra step which will just make everything that little bit safer.

The cover should be exactly the right size for the car without trailing on the floor because it is too big or stretching because it is too small. Just as you would not wear clothes that are the wrong size, make sure that your car has the correct cover for its model.

Regular Maintenance

One of the best things you can do to keep your car well-cared for is to have a routine of regular maintenance that you undertake. This includes washing it frequently and regularly applying a coat of wax to keep it sparkling and protected.

You should also regularly check the battery and the oil levels to make sure that the car is in full working order. Oil changes must be done at least annually or every 2500 miles depending on how much you drive the car. Every 20,000 miles change the spark plugs.

Take It for a Spin

There is no point in owning this beautiful classic car if you are going to keep it in a garage all the time. Take the car out every now and then, either for short trips to keep the engine in proper working order or for longer journeys. It will also prevent parts of the car from seizing up and the wheels from deflating from staying in place too long. Make sure you properly wash the car down and prepare it for storage when you bring it back.

You bought the car to be enjoyed and so you must make sure it is kept in working order so you can receive full pleasure from it. Follow these tips, and you can’t go wrong.
