Tips to Drive Uphill Like a Pro – Cameron Highland Version
Driving uphill are challenging for some beginner driver, especially they are driving old school cars that are more than 10 years ago, without the geeky features like “hill assist”, Anti Lock Brake System, Vehicle Stability Assist, Auto ON light, and etc… Here are some of the tips to ensure the driver drive the car confident on the hill and look PRO too!
1. Downshift Gear
Downshift the gear from “D” mode to “3” or “2” when driving on hill. This give optimum torque/hp for the driver when overtake is needed, and also using the gear as stopping force when driving downhill
2. Ensure Sufficient Fluids
Driving uphill required more power from the vehicle, which draw more fuel and putting coolant system in stress. Make sure fuel and the coolant fluid is sufficient in the car. Ensure no leakage in the coolant system.
3. Horn During Cornering
Use horn when you are passing a corner/slope hill where driver can’t see you from the other side. This give the warning to the driver that are coming from the other side of the slope.
4. Turn OFF Air Con
Driving uphill required much more torque of the engine. Turn OFF car air con and wind dow the car window, give you additional horsepower 10-15% boost for uphill drive and fresh air.
