When brand new vehicles are delivered to the client straight from the manufacturer, they usually come with a set of new tires known as Original Equipment tires (OEM) or OE tires. Car owners can choose to replace them with the same tire or with one that suits the vehicles once these tires wear out.
Singapore-based global tire manufacturer Giti Tire is known for providing OEM tires to some of the leading auto manufacturers in the world including the likes of General Motors, VW, Renault, Peugeut and others. Their catalogue features more than 660 fitments on vehicle models and sizes worldwide.
OEM tires and their uses
As mentioned before, OEM tires are the original tires provided to car owners. As the manufacturers have made these tires specifically for the vehicle, it has been put through many tests while being fitted. The manufacturers make sure that the tires fit well, don’t make any noise and match with the car’s features.
OEM tires are custom made by the manufacturer after performing several quality tests. If one prefers the original parts of a new car then they would usually have to buy OEM tires from a dealership. OEM tires can also be expensive compared to aftermarket tires. OEM tires normally need to be replaced when the car reaches 50000 miles. However, it depends on the driver as well. More aggressive drivers or car owners who drive on poor quality roads may need to replace them after 30,000.
Advantages of using OEM tires
Purchasing OEM tires will ensure that the car owner gets the same handling that the car came with originally. This means that the car will have the same type of traction and grip that the driver is already used to. This eliminates the need to get used to new tires every time a replacement is done.
Sticking with OEM tires also lets car owners enjoy the same gas usage as before. The fuel efficiency of a vehicle is dictated by the type of tires used. When the same tires are installed on the vehicle, the fuel efficiency remains the same.
OEM tires go through vigorous testing and rigid inspections before being made available in the market. They can provide the car owner with assurance that every component is of superior quality because of the tests they have undergone.
Insurance companies may disqualify car owners for using aftermarket car parts even if it’s not the real cause of damage. By using OEM parts, car owners effectively can prevent this hassle and patch up the loopholes that the insurer may use to not pay up.
How OEM tires are better than Aftermarket tires?
Vehicle manufacturers include OEM tires which are the same specification as the wheels included with the vehicle as it came off the assembly line. They fit the tire frames and the car’s hub bearings perfectly, providing a much better ride than aftermarket wheels. Since aftermarket wheels are typically made to fit different models, they do not always meet the exact specifications needed for a vehicle. This results in a fitment mismatch which will ultimately have negative effect on performance. Aftermarket tools are thus cheaper in comparison to OEM tires, but the compromise in price isn’t worth it.
Most aftermarket tires are manufactured using cheaper materials for mass production. This makes them structurally inferior compared to OEM tires which may result in inferior performance. Manufacturers take the handling and performance of a car into consideration and offer several OEM wheels that fit the car without sacrificing the driver’s safety. Using aftermarket wheels on a vehicle may result in compromise of safety. They can also prematurely wear out the vehicle’s parts such as suspension and brakes.
