A Guide to Car Warranties

It is unfortunate, but automobiles are temperamental and there can be mechanical or electrical faults at any moment in the vehicle’s life. Whilst it is true that older vehicles are more likely to break down, it is still possible with brand new vehicles due to the increased amount of systems and technology found in modern cars.

Manufacturer Warranties

This is not too much of a concern if a motorist purchases the automobile new as it will be protected by the manufacturer’s warranty. This warranty will cover the cost of repairs or the vehicle will be replaced at no cost to you. Most manufacturer warranties last for 3 years of 60,000 miles after the date of manufacture, but some manufacturer’s are now increasing their warranty period in a bid to entice customers and because they feel that their vehicles are so well built.

Extended Warranties

A vehicle suffering a mechanical or electrical fault after this period can be a concern because it can cost so much to make repairs (especially for modern vehicles). It is for this reason why it is recommended that a motorist takes out an extended warranty when they purchase a used car which is no longer covered by the manufacturer’s warranty (or if someone decides to keep their vehicle beyond the original warranty period).

Finding Policies

An extended warranty is an optional policy that will protect the owner if the vehicle has a mechanical or electrical fault. Much like an insurance policy, no two extended warranties are the same so it is important to always read the small print and take the time to find the right policy for you. When purchasing a used car a motorist has 30 days to present a fault under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, but beyond this, they will be on their own. Many dealerships offer extended warranties, but for the best deals and flexible cover it is always best to used a specialist.

Specialists

Specialist suppliers of extended warranties can provide a high-quality policy for much more affordable prices. The cost will be determined by a few different aspects, but you can find specialist cover for all brands, including warranties for Hyundai (who have a longer than average manufacturer warranty). The best warranties will cover the cost of labour and parts as well as car hire, recovery costs and consequential damage.

It is always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to warranties as a vehicle can break down at any time, but you should always find a high-quality extended warranty once the original manufacturer warranty has passed.
