7 unbelievably easy tips to keep your car healthy & safe

Car is not just a commodity. It’s a part of your lifestyle, and the type of car we own defines us. But once we grab the keys and head to the road, what are some things we should be mindful of? What do we need to take care of?

We have compiled a list of tips and advice from experts to keep your car healthy. Keeping your car in good condition is not just a matter of prestige but also one of safety. A well-kept car won’t leave you stranded on the road, and it is reliable when you need it. So here we go; 7 tips to keep your car healthy and safe.

#Pro Tip 1: Maintain a checklist.

Several components in your car depreciate over time as you use it. The engine and brake oils, the brake and clutch pads, the tyres, etc., each have their life period. So, keep those in check from time to time, and ensure that all those are thoroughly checked and maintained when you do your services from time to time.

#Pro Tip 2: Know your car and be gentle with it.

If you have just bought a new car, the first 1000 miles or six months is a crucial period. Preferably, drive under 55MpH and avoid heavy loads if possible. Also, try to maintain the RPMs under 3000 to ensure a longer lifespan for the engine and not let it idle for long periods.

#Pro Tip 3: High speeds and reckless driving always reduces performance.

Going to full throttle as soon as you start running adds heavy damage to your engines. Accelerate slowly and keep it neutral while resting in traffic lights to make it lighter for the transmission. It’s also recommended that you do not hold the steering at extreme positions for more extended periods as it messes up the power-steering pump.

#Pro Tip 4: Be aware of the fuel you fill.

The gas you put in the car is breathe life into it. So, ensure that you only use gas from reliable or reputable gas stations as much as possible. If you see a tanker refilling the gas at a station, know that it can stir up the sediments inside the tank, which can clog up your fuel pipes.

#Pro Tip 5: Clean well, park in the shade.

If you can protect your car from nature, it lasts longer. So, try and use parking spots that offer shades or use garage/underground parking spots whenever possible. You can opt for a carwash or servicing station for deep cleaning from time to time, but also take a few minutes every day to give it a nice wipe, including the insides. Dust and dirt accumulate over time, and by the time you start seeing its effect, it’s already too late.

#Pro Tip 6: The sooner you fix it, the better.

There are several chances of minor dents, windshield cracks, or paint scrapes that you may want to leave untouched until significant servicing. But those can be a real pain in the ass if you leave them be for long periods. Small scrapes in the paint can cause rust to build up and tamper with the parts. Besides, most of the time, these small dents or cracks can be easily fixed without costing too much if you have access to a garage that you trust. But if you let them stay on for long enough, they might become severe and can end up costing you way higher.

#Pro Tip 7: Accessories are not extravagant if you choose wisely.

Many car owners think that adding extra fittings or buying devices for your car is unnecessary. But that cannot be further from the truth. A GPS Tracker and its mobile application can be incredibly helpful during emergencies. If your precious car gets stolen, a GPS Tracker can be the difference between losing it permanently and bringing it back quickly. There are plenty of devices in the market that offers advanced features like ignition alarm, geofencing, power cutoff alarms etc., that protects your car even when you are not there to monitor or track it actively. Similarly, toolkits that can help you do minor repairs, jumper cable to restart your battery, tyre inflator, etc., can all come in handy in emergencies while you are on the road.
