5 Great Ways to Improve Your Car’s Performance

As cars roll off the assembly line at the factory, they’re identical to each other. Every part is chosen for its perfect fit within the design, but that fact doesn’t mean that the items are of the highest quality. In fact, certain parts are chosen solely because they’ll drive the final cost down on the car. They’ll swiftly move off the car lot. With your car being a constant in your life, you want to upgrade it with a few aftermarket selections. Here are a few ways that you can use to improve your car’s performance

1. Change Your Filters

There are two main filters in a standard car, including the air-conditioning and engine filters. Forgetting to service these items, especially the engine filter, creates problems on the road. The engine must have a clear, breathing pathway. A dirty filter forces the engine to work harder with less output during acceleration.

Replace the filter as often as the manufacturer suggests. If you’d like to save some money, opt for reusable filters. Rinse these filters out and allow them to dry. They last for several thousand miles as a result.

The AC filter should be changed as often as the engine filter. Your car’s interior will suffer from a musky smell otherwise.

2. Upgrade to a Supercharger

Your vehicle may not be an exotic sports car, but it can perform like one with a supercharger. It connects onto the engine where it pressurizes the air moving into the system. The supercharger forces the pressurized air into the engine so that it can mix with the fuel.

Because there’s a high volume of air compared to the fuel, the car’s horsepower is effectively improved. You’ll feel the difference in the acceleration.

Superchargers come in many different varieties, depending on your engine specifications. Look for a supercharger that fits your budget. Any upgrade to the factory’s engine will be a noticeable improvement. Simply follow the installation instructions when you’re a DIY mechanic.

3. Swap out the Spark Plugs

The spark plugs offer the necessary power to ignite the fuel. They’re often overlooked because they only provide a spark. However, it’s this spark that can offer better performance to your engine.

Depending on your vehicle, you might have four, six or eight spark plugs. Swap them out as a complete set. Verify that their gap or spacing is correct upon installation too. The car will seem to come alive after the new parts are properly set.

You might consider swapping out the spark-plug wires too. Older wires can impede performance. Compare the car’s performance after these upgrades. Igniting the fuel and keeping it moving through the system is how a car can take on the road with a vengeance.

4. Switch to Synthetic Oil

Traditional oil for car engines is derived from fossil fuels. There are natural deposits and debris within the oil. They may be incredibly small, but they will have a negative effect on the engine over time.

Switching to synthetic oil protects the engine so that it can run at optimal levels. There are virtually no deposits, which reduces friction and offers peak engine performance. The oil can burn at a cleaner level and still improve the engine’s operations.

Cars of any age can feel improved with synthetic oil installed during the next oil change. It usually costs a bit more than traditional oil, but it will last longer. The engine will feel renewed after just the first ride.

5. Try New Rims and Tires

Factory rims aren’t the highest quality parts from the manufacturer. They simply fit a cost analysis. Improve the car’s performance and handling with lightweight rims. Most aftermarket rims have wide dimensions, which allows you to upgrade your tires too. With more tread on the ground, you have better handling through turns and curves.

Keep in mind that the tires will often be thinner than the factory-issued types. Prioritize air checks on the tires. Store a tire gauge in your car, for example. Filling the tires with air each week as necessary will also improve performance. Slightly flat tires will grab too much of the road, which leads to poor handling. In fact, your mileage is also compromised. Between new rims and tires, the car will feel completely different as you drive down the road.

As you upgrade those parts, consider maintenance on the core items. Flush and replace the transmission fluid whenever necessary. Service the brakes before they become squeaky concerns. Attention to your car will give it a long life ahead on the road.
