Cars are never bought as an investment, it’s common knowledge that, other than in some exceptions such as classic cars, vehicles start to depreciate from the moment they roll off the showroom floor until the day they are scrapped. But despite this, your car is still an asset and you don’t want it to devalue at a quicker rate than it has to, so it’s essential to keep your vehicle safe and un-damaged at home.
CCTV
The cost of home CCTV systems has fallen dramatically in recent years and if anyone is looking to damage your car or, even worse, steal it, then even the presence of a camera can be a deterrent and if not allows you to more easily catch the culprit. You can even construct a make-shift surveillance system using old mobile phone cameras and PCs. If you have a dashboard cam and it’s able to record to the internet this can also work too.
Alarms
If your car is valuable then you will want to make sure that it has a good alarm as you will want to deter any thieves. A good, modern alarm should be very difficult for any car thief to deactivate without the real key as the signal is encrypted preventing this. Another option here is to use a remote immobilizer to deactivate the vehicle at any time remotely.
Is Your Garage Secure
How secure is your garage? It certainly pays to make sure you don’t have weak doors or even windows on some older-style garages. Also, you want to make sure the structure is on a good state of repair and that there is no chance of roof tiles coming in and damaging the vehicle or masonry falling off. If you are looking at constructing a new garage then it’s important to ensure you start with good solid foundations and make sure all work is done correctly such as a good strong, epoxy flooring.
Don’t Park Too Close
Don’t park too close to other vehicles as this will decrease the chances of accidental scrapes and dents due to car doors opening into yours. Choose spaces very carefully and park away from other cars or if you do have to go close to others then choose to park next to nicer vehicles as they will, no doubt, be more vigilant to vehicle damage. If you are parking in an indoor multi-vehicle parking garage then a car cover may help protect your vehicle further.
Vehicle Tracker
In the event of an actual theft then it’s important to try and recover the vehicle as quickly as possible. Having a vehicle tracker can really help here and should be able to show you exactly where your car has been taken. Clearly, you should alert the police immediately rather than trying to confront the thieves yourself and recover the vehicle that way, the police are the professionals here and also in the event of an insurance claim then you need to have done everything the right way.
