Peugeot 408 Turbo Test Drive Review in Queensbay Mall
Few months back, I was shopping at Queensbay Mall, Penang with my friend. Coincidentally, there was a Peugeot roadshow inside the mall. Without any hesitation, we registered ourselves for a test drive. I chose the Peugeot 408 Turbo car for my test drive car.
Oh yeah, it is a turbo car! This is the first turbo car and first Peugeot car I have ever test drive and I was so excited about it.
My friend used to tell me the Peugeot logo looks like a mutated cat and she always called it “mutant cat”. She is funny, isn’t she? LOL.
After we waited for almost half an hour for our turn to test drive unit to come back, finally it is was our turn to test the drive the Peugeot 408 Turbo. We heeded to the blue and shinning European, turbocharged car which parked just outside Queensbay Mall. The moment I get into this C-segment sedan vehicle, I was impressed by the comfortable and pleasant feeling inside the car. The interior of Peugeot 408 Turbo is classic yet luxurious, refined with a European black dashboard and dark luxury leather seats.
However, the interior of the car is not the sporty type as typical turbocharged cars used to be. Next, we are surprised by the sound insulation of the car, we barely hear the engine sound during the car is idling and the car is quiet as Honda Civic 1.8S that I have tested drive few weeks back.
The Peugeot 408 Turbo comes with dual air-conditioning with digital display and we can adjust the temperature and the fan speeds using a stylish turning knob. The car even has the rear air conditioning for the rear passengers. The gear knob and the dashboard lining come in chrome color which outshines the whole interior of the car. The panel meter comes with white classic dial meters and there is an LCD information display to show the average fuel consumption, the distance of the trips and other important information that puts the driver at ease during driving.
After we have explored and had fun with the interior and features that available inside the cabin of Peugeot 408 Turbo, we are ready to spin around the city with the car. We started heading off to the Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, Penang where there is a long straight highway road to test out the turbocharged car.
Then I stepped on the accelerator pedal of the car, the Peugeot 408 Turbo move effortlessly. The Peugeot 408 Turbo gave me the feeling of the car is so LIGHT. It was like the lightest car I ever drove in my life. Thanks to the EP6CDT Engine 1.6L 4 cylinder, DOHC 16 valve, Twin Scroll Turbo High Pressure with VVT (variable valve timing). It is very well tuned and this engine delivers one of the best performance for a car in the C segment. Peugeot 408 Turbo gives Power: 163hp@6000rpm, Torque: 240Nm@1400 – 4250rpm.
On the highway, I managed to push this Peugeot 408 Turbo by fully pressed the accelerator pedal and armed with 6 speed auto adaptive transmission with tiptronic & Sport mode, the car immediately accelerated without much lag and we could feel the G-force hold us back to the seats during the powerful acceleration. From here you should know how powerful this car is and it was so much fun with the responsive 6-speed sportmmo transmission! I never felt so strong a pulling force in any car that I’d tested before today, not even Toyota Camry 2.0G 2011, Honda Civic 1.8S, and my Vios 1.5J. During the harsh acceleration, the engine noise does roar but at an acceptable noise level and I was enjoying the ‘vroom’ sound that the Peugeot 408 Turbo produced throughout the journey.
Handling of Peugeot 408 Turbo is impressive too! The car steering is stiff yet precise during high speed (110km/h) and steering is light at slower speed. Peugeot 408 Turbo is equipped with Macpherson Strut suspension and wide 17 inches with stylish 8-spokes wheels which give fantastic stability during cruising at high-speed and provide solid stiff handling at harsh cornering without creating much body-roll.
Peugeot 408 2.0 comes standard with Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) while the Peugeot 408 Turbo comes with Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Anti-skid Regulation (ASR). Peugeot 408 Turbo has 6 airbags to keep the driver and passengers safe too. It was such a wonderful experience to try out the Peugeot 408 Turbo, priced at RM125,888.
After the test drive session, each of us received a free gift (Peugeot umbrella and a recycle bag) from Peugeot. I am so satisfied and happy with the event held by the Peugeot in Queensbay Mall. We will definitely be there again if there is another roadshow by Peugeot.
